Marquette and UWM receive grants, Aurora awards $5 million to nonprofits, TCF Bank and MPS partner for mitten drive

  • Aurora Health Care announced Wednesday it is awarding $5 million in grants through its Better Together Fund to more than 40 community organizations, colleges and universities throughout eastern Wisconsin to improve access to primary care, behavioral health and sexual assault and domestic violence prevention services.
  • The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee received three highly competitive research instrumentation grants from the National Science Foundation in November. The grants, totaling more than $1.7 million, will pay for equipment that supports research and classroom instruction in chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, astrophysics, physics and medicine.
  • Marquette University’s Opus College of Engineering received three grants worth a total of $630,459 to fund robotics research and create a robotics program for Milwaukee Public Schools.
  • TCF Bank and Milwaukee Public Schools have partnered on a donation drive at 16 TCF Bank branches in the area and the MPS Central Services building, to collect hats, scarves and gloves for students in need. The drive started Dec. 1 and runs through Jan. 6.
  • TAXIMKE, a Milwaukee-based Taxicab company has launched a holiday campaign to donate 9,000 meals to families in need in Wisconsin. The campaign, called “Drive out Hunger,” was formed in partnership with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. TAXIMKE will volunteer employees, taxis and drivers to transport food collection barrels, promotional materials and to make food deliveries to pantries and organizations participating in the drive. The campaign began Nov. 19 and will run through Dec. 20.
