Developer plans apartment complex for Commerce Street

Waukesha-based The Kendal Group Ltd. plans to build a 113-unit apartment development at 2056 N. Commerce St., just north of downtown Milwaukee.

The project will be reviewed Thursday by the city’s Redevelopment Authority. As proposed the project exceeds the 40 dwelling unit per acre density maximum established by the Beerline “B” master plan.

Kendal Group is seeking an exemption to that density standard. The Redevelopment Athority will consider a resolution that states, “The increased density is appropriate for this site given the location of the site adjacent to Humboldt Street…and the density of surrounding residential developments.”

The overall density for the Beerline “B” master plan area would remain under 40 dwelling units per acre, even with the addition of the Kendal Group project, called “Walker’s Landing Apartments.”
