Dems plan Milwaukee hearing on Medicaid cuts

The Milwaukee Democratic Legislative Caucus is holding a public hearing today on Medicaid cuts critics say will severely impact the state’s seniors and children.
The hearing, being held at Washington Park Senior Center from 6:30 to 9 p.m., will give the public a chance to respond to a DHS plan that would modify eligibility requirements for those on Medicaid. It is estimated that the changes, which still need approval from the Obama administration, would drop 65,000 people from Medicaid rolls.
The Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee approved the state’s waiver request and other Medicaid changes on Nov. 10. They are intended to close a $554 million deficit in state programs.
The event is free and open to the public, media, and all Milwaukee-area elected officials.
