Buffalo, New York-based food service and hospitality company Delaware North notified state officials that it has temporarily laid off about 1,300 employees who work at Lambeau Field and Miller Park.

The company provided the notice to state employees to comply with state and federal laws because the layoffs could now last more than six months, due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

“These (layoffs) were intended to be less than six months,” Delaware North chief human resources officer Eileen Morgan said in a letter to the state. “The pandemic has proved longer in duration and more devastating than anyone could have predicted…We continue to hope that this action is temporary, but the estimated duration cannot be determined with any certainty at this time.”

The Milwaukee Brewers are preparing to finally begin their season later this month, but games will be played without fans in the stands so food service and hospitality employees are not needed. Plans for the NFL season are still up in the air.

The Green Bay Packers and the NFL face difficult decisions for the upcoming season, Packers president and chief executive officer Mark Murphy said in a letter on the team’s website.
