So, the hubby and I are sitting around and talking one day a few years after retirement, trying to guess what the future might hold for us. We had decided that we wanted to stay in Milwaukee, as it has everything we enjoy – restaurants, theatre, a world class art museum and symphony, a wonderful health care system, easy access to an airport, Amtrak, public transportation and, of course, all of our very dear friends.
Living on the Lower East Side for 35 years, we are used to having everything within walking distance or a short ride away. Sure, we could stay in our home, but I was tired of having to carry groceries up a couple flights of stairs and carrying the laundry downstairs to the laundry room. Cleaning the snow off the car was also on my list of things I no longer cared to do.
We had often talked about what we would do if one of us needed care, either short-term or long-term. And then it occurred to us – we have one of the best retirement communities in the country just a few blocks away! So we set up a tour with Beth Chancellor, who showed us around Saint John’s On The Lake. She told us about the new tower that would be built on the campus. Then she explained the Life Care option, and we knew that was perfect for us. It offers security in planning for future health care while protecting our financial resources.
Our friends thought us too young to take this step, but we wanted to make this move while we are young enough to integrate into the community and take advantage of all Saint John’s has to offer, rather than wait until we can no longer enjoy where we live.
We decided: This is our life. So, we’re creating our future at Saint John’s on the Lake.
