Construction & Design: Building, Architect & Subcontractor Directory

Cranes back in the sky

The construction industry was hit especially hard during the Great Recession and unemployment rates in the construction trades dropped to depression levels in the Milwaukee area and the United States.

But now the local construction industry appears to be in the early stages of a rebound as several major projects are under construction and several others are being planned.

Four hotels are under construction in the downtown area. Wal-Mart is building several stores in southeastern Wisconsin. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has several major projects under construction throughout the Milwaukee area. Several apartment developments are also under construction to meet the strong demand for multi-family rental housing.

Meanwhile, several additional major projects are in the planning stages. Kohl’s Corp. plans to build a new corporate headquarters in Menomonee Falls. Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. is planning a major new building on its downtown Milwaukee campus. A 44-story residential, hotel and retail tower is planned for the downtown Milwaukee lakefront. The Corners, a major retail development similar to Bayshore Town Center, is planned in the Town of Brookfield. Meijer Inc. plans to build several stores in southeastern Wisconsin.

All of this construction activity finally means more work for design and construction firms in southeastern Wisconsin.

To help businesses find the best builders and designers, BizTimes Milwaukee presents the Construction & Design Building, Architect and Subcontractor Directory.

This directory features local organizations with products or services for the construction, design and renovation of commercial buildings and office environments. Firms that are eligible to be in the directory include: construction firms, architectural firms, interior designers, restoration services and specialty contractors.

The companies listed in this directory are based in the eight-county southeastern Wisconsin region (Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Walworth, Ozaukee, Washington and Sheboygan counties).

Entries submitted after the print deadline can be viewed online.
