Are Midwest high-speed rail initiatives effective tools to spur economic development and job growth along the I-Q Corridor? Hear the latest on high-speed rail plans, from equipment to ridership to stations, from Wisconsin Department of Transportation experts during the Thursday, July 8, meeting of the Wisconsin Innovation Network in Wauwatosa.
The meeting will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 10499 Innovation Drive, Wauwatosa. The hotel is located near the Milwaukee County Research Park.
Speakers will be two DOT managers, John Oimoen and Paul Trombino, who are directing Wisconsin’s project planning. They will review the history of the high-speed rail proposal, describe how it builds upon the existing Milwaukee-Chicago passenger line and discuss costs as well as long-term effects on economic development and transportation needs.
Following the presentation will be a reaction panel from business leaders who support and oppose high-speed rail.
WIN is the membership arm of the Tech Council, the independent, nonprofit science and technology adviser to the governor and the Legislature.
Registration and networking will begin at 11:30 a.m., with lunch at noon and the presentation at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for students, $25 for WIN members, Governor’s Business Plan Contest participants and Milwaukee County Research Park tenants, $35 for non-members and included with WIN corporate memberships.
