Conference to focus on engineering legal issues

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Wisconsin will conduct a conference on Thursday, Nov. 8, in Madison on legal issues in engineering.

The conference will be an interactive seminar designed to help consulting engineers understand how the legal system addresses claims and how parties can identify, minimize and address potential claims during project implementation.

The seminar will be presented by a team of attorneys from Axley Brynelson LLP: Saul Glazer, John Mitby, Brian Mullins, Lori Lubinsky and Carl Sinderbrand.

Legal issues that will be addressed at the event include: contract provisions relating to claims, claims avoidance and management practices, legal causes of action and available damages, common methods of dispute resolution, prosecution and defense of claims and the litigation process.

Executive and administrative managers, contract administrators, risk and claims managers, project managers, construction phase service providers and in-house council are being encouraged to attend.

Six professional development hour credits will be awarded to participants.

The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ayres Associates, 1802 Pankratz St., Madison. The registration deadline is Nov. 2. The cost is $130 for ACEC members and $205 for non-members who register by Oct. 12 and $180 for ACEC members and $255 for non-members who register by Nov. 2.
