Concordia to open Innovation Center for Drug Development

Mequon-based Concordia University Wisconsin will hold a grand opening celebration for its Innovation Center for Drug Development on Tuesday, May 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the new Innovation Accelerator building on the University of Wisconsin Innovation Campus, 1225 Discovery Parkway in Wauwatosa.

The CUW School of Pharmacy will use the space to offer a master of pharmaceutical/chemical product development (MPD) degree beginning in August.

The public grand opening will include tours of the lab and equipment, and will provide more information about the degree program. The event will include refreshments and giveaways. CUW President Rev. Dr. Patrick Ferry and Wauwatosa Mayor Kathleen Ehley will hold a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m.

“Our Innovation Center for Drug Development provides a unique hybrid classroom-research lab, with cutting edge resources you won’t find anywhere else in the state for drug design, manufacturing, formulation, and analytical characterization,” said Dr. Daniel Sem, program director for the MPD degree.

Germantown-based Cambridge Major Labs consulted on the design of the lab. The Innovation Accelerator, the first Innovation Campus building to open, is near the Medical College of Wisconsin, Froedtert Hospital and other medical institutions. The labs offer access to up and coming industry research and technology.
