Bumstead Provisions, a rustic new grocery store, restaurant and bar with an emphasis on locally-sourced craft beer and food, will open in September at 2671-75 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., according to Ald. Tony Zielinski.
The owners of the store, Devin Eichler and Mike Bodow, are the creative team behind Crafty Cow in Oconomowoc. They said they chose Bay View after doing extensive market research.
“The Bay View neighborhood just has this vibe—it just feels right,” Bodow said.
“What we’re hoping for in Bay View is similar excitement for this very new, very different concept,” Eichler said.
Bumstead Provisions will occupy the space vacated by ReThreads Clothing and a hardware store at 2671 and 2675 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.
Customers will have the options of shopping for spreads, oils, sauces, chocolates and more, or enjoying a seasonal selection of small plates and artisan sandwiches from the kitchen and deli.
To execute their vision, Eichler and Bodow have hired Braatz Building, the builders of Lulu Café and Goodkind in Milwaukee. Eichler and Bodow have also decided to utilize designer Libby Castro and her LP/w Design Studios, which is responsible for creating the interiors of Milwaukee establishments C. 1880 and Vanguard.
Bumstead Provisions will be latest addition to Bay View, which has become one of the hottest development spots in the city. On Monday the City Plan Commission approved plans for a $40 million redevelopment project at 2151-81 S. Robinson Ave. that would have 307 market rate apartments. In addition a 72-unit apartment development is planned at 2202 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.
The increased population density along Kinnickinnic could help attract more businesses like Bumstead Provisions.
“Bumstead Provisions will be an excellent addition to the Bay View neighborhood, which seems to have an endless appetite for the kind of creative fare and vibrant atmosphere that this new business will provide,” Zielinski said.
