Colon seeks help to pay off campaign debts

State Rep. Pedro Colón (D-Milwaukee) is raising money for his campaign, even though he won’t be running for re-election.
Saying he needs help to pay off campaign debts, Colón sent an e-mail solicitation to supporters this week.
"I continue to be humbled by your long years of support and as I begin the next phase of my personal and professional life, I need to close the books on this chapter," wrote Colón, who had an unsuccessful bid for Milwaukee city attorney in 2008. "Unfortunately, I do have debt with my campaign and therefore I am asking that you support me a final time."
According to Colón’s January campaign finance report, his campaign has outstanding loans of $11,280. The report shows he paid himself back $2,720 during the second half of last year for loans related to the city attorney race.
Colón’s campaign took in $18,985 in the second half of last year and spent $13,567, including contributions of $1,000 each to Tom Barrett’s gubernatorial campaign and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
