College Possible to broaden programming with $700,000 grant

College Possible Milwaukee, a nonprofit organization that serves low-income high school students with college preparation resources, plans to expand its outreach into more area high schools thanks to a $700,000 grant from the Burke Foundation.

Through the grant dollars, College Possible Milwaukee will focus on connecting more students to its college access and success programming over the next three years. Part of its targeted programming involves matching low-income Milwaukee high school youth to recent college graduates who can mentor them through all phases of their college experience.

“While meeting with the College Possible team throughout this grant process, we were able to see the transformative impact, firsthand, that College Possible coaches had on the students they serve,” said Deanna Singh, executive director of the Burke Foundation, which is based in Milwaukee.

College Possible Milwaukee currently works with more than 2,500 students, including 600 high school students at 10 partner high schools throughout Milwaukee and more than 800 college students at institutions across the country.
