Mark Clements will continue leading productions at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater for the next four years, according to an announcement made on Wednesday by the Milwaukee Rep’s Board of Trustees.
“The Board of Trustees is delighted that Mark has accepted our offer to extend his contract with Milwaukee Rep for another four years,” said Board President Judy Hansen. “Mark is a brilliant artist, and we have been thrilled with the direction he has taken The Rep in his first three years.”
Clements’ new contract runs from July 1, 2013, through June 31, 2017.
Throughout the past three years, the artistic director has led the Milwaukee Rep down new avenues by producing full musicals in the company’s Quadracci Powerhouse main stage theater and by adding to the company’s creative team with new directors, writers, designers and musicians.
Clements also helped to liven each of the Milwaukee Rep’s three venues with Rep Late Night special events and has boosted its community engagement efforts, particularly those related to arts education.
Moving forward, Clements, whose productions have touched the stages of more than 100 major theatres across the U.S. and Europe, will work to strengthen the identity of the Milwaukee Rep and its performances in the broader theater community.
“I am extremely happy with what we’ve accomplished so far, but I am also eagerly looking forward to deepening our engagement with our audiences, the Milwaukee community, and raising more awareness amongst the wider theater ecology in America on what a real gem Milwaukee Rep is, and particularly so through the output of our exciting new play development program,” Clements said. “I am proud to call Milwaukee Rep my artistic home and of our vision to create theater for all.”
During the 2013-2014 theatre season, which marks the Milwaukee Rep’s 60th anniversary, Clements is slated to direct Ragtime, End of the Rainbow, and The History of Invulnerability.
