New Berlin-based CJ & Associates will acquire the interiors division of New Berlin-based Schroeder Solutions as of Jan. 1, the companies announced. The two firms currently both provide interior design, office furnishings, remodeling and installation. After the deal closes, the remaining Schroeder Solutions business will focus exclusively on labor and logistics. Scott Gierhahn, president and founder of Schroeder, has been working on a transition plan for several years. “My biggest concern through this process was always for the people. I wanted to make this transition as seamless as possible for them. I think we achieved that. The only real difference for the interiors team after January 1st, is that they will be driving a little farther down Calhoun Road to get their office,” Gierhahn said. “We will miss them, but are excited to see them thrive under Kim’s leadership.” Kim Hastings, president of CJ & Associates, described Gierhahn as “gracious” throughout the deal process. “It is not lost on me how difficult his decision was. It took courage to take a step out of the interiors industry and I have gained a great deal of respect for him,” Hastings said. The CJ & Associates team will grow from 23 to 29 people with the deal. “Both teams are very passionate about our industry and have a consultative, human approach to solving workplace challenges. There is a lot we can learn from each other,” Hastings said. “This acquisition will allow us to take our business to the next level. We’re ready to try something different, grow and find new ways to do business.” Gierhahn will continue to lead Schroeder as it focuses on its labor and logistics business, including commercial relocations, furniture installation, nationwide logistics and facilities maintenance services. “The synergy between our labor and logistics division is really quite amazing,” Gierhahn said. “Our installation team has always had the ability to work on multiple furniture lines, so now we can be an asset to more organizations in our area. Our talented team of project managers, operations personnel, logistics coordinators and in-house installers combined with our vast network of warehouse partners provides a new level of service across the nation.”
