As part of efforts to redevelop the 30th Street Industrial Corridor in the central city of Milwaukee, city officials plan to acquire the former T.C. Esser Paint Company properties at West Galena Street and North 32nd Avenue. The city plans to declare the properties blighted and is expected acquire the properties in June or July as part of a foreclosure action.
The former Esser Paint properties are a 7,650-square-foot parking lot at 3131 W. Galena St., a 21,830-square-foot vacant lot at 3207 W. Cherry St. and a 77,873-square-foot lot with 90,000 square feet of industrial space at 1542-46 N. 32nd St. The property has been vacant since 2000.
The Esser Paint properties are tax delinquent since 2006.
The properties will be acquired by the city’s Redevelopment Authority which plans to demolish the structures and use state and federal grants to remove contamination. Once that process is complete the Redevelopment Authority will create a redevelopment plan for the properties.
