City offering DeVry $1 million in TIF for West Loop move

The city of Chicago is offering for-profit education DeVry Inc. $1 million to open an operations center in the West Loop that’s expected to employ 600 people.

DeVry plans to move the operations center to 300 S. Riverside Plaza from its current location at 3300 N. Campbell Ave., according to a report prepared for the city Community Development Commission. The commission on Tuesday will consider a request to provide the school $1 million in tax-increment financing to defray the $6.6 million it will cost to build the center.

To receive the subsidy, DeVry has committed to moving 150 employees to the new facility from the one on the North Side. The company also has agreed to hire another 450 people at the West Loop location by 2021, according to the report.
