City of Racine acquires former Racine Steel Castings site

The city of Racine’s Redevelopment Authority recently acquired the 10-acre former Racine Steel Castings site at 1425 N. Memorial Drive for $1.

Planning work to clean up and reuse the property is underway. City officials home to attract light manufacturing uses to the property, which borders a rail line. “It’s perfect for a manufacturer to locate and development,” said Racine Mayor John Dickert.

In 2009 the Racine Common Council agreed to purchase the property for $316,000 from construction and demolition contractor E.G. Development LLC/Dominic Gorniak. However, Gorniak did not comply with the conditions of the sale agreement and he eventually abandoned the property, city officials said.
