City eliminates police spokeswoman’s job

The Milwaukee Common Council has decided to eliminate the position of communications director for the Milwaukee Police Department held by Anne Schwartz.

Schwartz, the high-profile spokeswoman of the department, has served as the media and community liaison.

In an email, Schwartz wrote, “Sadly, I write this to let you all know that the Milwaukee Common Council has de-funded my position and it was eliminated from the budget. As of Dec. 31, 2012, I will be leaving MPD and looking for the next exciting chapter in my life.”

Schwartz, a former journalist and author, said she will continue to provide training for law enforcement and public safety professionals locally and nationwide, working with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Major Cities Chiefs, Waukesha Area Technical College and the University of New Haven.
