Chicago-based law firm Sugar Felsenthal Grais & Helsinger LLP announced today that it recently opened an office in the Milwaukee area, which is being led of Navroz “Norrie” Daroga. The Milwaukee-area office for Sugar Felsenthal Grais & Helsinger is located at 1339 W. Mequon Road, Suite 200, in Mequon. Daroga is a lawyer and entrepreneur who also has an engineering background. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1980 and his law degree from Marquette University in 1988. Daroga was an engineer for General Electric from 1980-88, then he practiced law as an associate and partner for Milwaukee-based Quarles & Brady from 1988-97. He then became the first general counsel for Brown Deer-based Metavante Technologies Inc. and eventually executive vice president and chief administrative officer, working for Metavante from 1998-2008. Daroga had his own law practice from 2008 until joining Sugar Felsenthal Grais & Helsinger recently. He also his own technology business, Mequon-based Intelligent Digital Avatars Inc. (d.b.a. idAvatars), in 2013, which created intelligent digital avatars that could display compassion, empathy and a sense of humor. One of the avatars was used by health care companies for virtual visits. After losing Blue Cross Blue Shield as a client, the business temporarily shut down in 2018. Later in 2018 a group, including Daroga, acquired selected assets of idAvatars and formed a new organization, Nfinity Avatars. Daroga has been president of the Mequon-based firm since then. “The touchstone of our growth strategy has been to capitalize on common connections in recruiting excellent human beings, like Norrie, who also happen to be excellent attorneys,” said Sugar Felsenthal executive committee member Jonathan Friedland. “Norrie’s unique experience as a licensed lawyer turned entrepreneur brings invaluable insights and a deep understanding of the increasingly complex challenges private equity clients face.” Founded in 1981 as a tax and estate planning boutique, Sugar Felsenthal now focuses on serving private companies and their owners, such as families, high net worth individuals, and private equity firms. The Milwaukee office is Sugar Felsenthal’s second opening outside its hometown Chicago in the past four years, having opened a New York office in 2016.
