Chameleon wins beer award

Glendale-based Chameleon Brewing Company, subsidiary of Sprecher Brewing Company, has won an award for its Witty, a Belgian white wheat ale with spices.

The beer was named the top 2012 Belgian Wit beer at the 2012 U.S. Open Beer Championship, The Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup.
The Witty beat out other American beers, like Brewery Ommegang’s Witte, Allagash Brewing Company’s Allagash White, Hoegaarden Brewery’s Hoegaarden and New Belgium Brewing’s Mothership Wit.
“This is currently my favorite beer in the Chameleon line up,” said Sprecher Brewmaster Craig Burge. “I made it true to style, featuring orange, coriander, grains of paradise in that order. I’m glad to see it’s getting the recognition it deserves.”
