Cement company moving U.S. base to Chicago area

Cement maker Lafarge North America is spending about $10 million to move its U.S. headquarters to Illinois, with the state kicking in another $6.3 million in an incentive package.

The move from Virginia will bring more than 90 jobs here in the first two years and “likely more than 100” over the next few years, Gov. Pat Quinn’s office said in a release.

The company has not chosen a building, says Eric Kunkel of Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., who represents the firm. Lafarge is looking for about 30,000 square feet in the Oak Brook area or around O’Hare International Airport, Mr. Kunkel says.

Company executive John Stull said in the governor’s release that “The location around O’Hare and along the I-294 corridor is an ideal area for us because it is central to our U.S. footprint.”
