California-based gift and novelty store opening at Southridge

Current property map shows almost 30 vacancies.

BoxLunch Gifts will open its second Milwaukee-area location early next month, at Southridge Mall in Greendale, mall owner Simon Property Group Inc. announced Thursday.

The Industry, California-based retail chain sells pop culture-themed gift and novelty items. It currently has a store at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa.

BoxLunch Gifts will occupy a 2,400-square-foot space on Southridge Mall’s lower level.

Despite increased vacancies and retail challenges at regional malls, Southridge has managed to add a number of tenants to its roster this year– most recently women’s fashion boutique Shopbella and CBD retailer Seventh Sense. Discount retailer T.J. Maxx opened in August.

Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy and state’s first Round 1 Bowling and Amusement now occupy the redeveloped building that formerly housed Sears. J.C. Penney and Macy’s remain as the mall’s two major big box tenants.

A map on the Southridge Mall website shows almost 30 vacancies out of about 115 tenant spaces throughout the shopping center’s upper and lower levels.
