Building disassembly

Work is progressing to take down, piece-by-piece, a 16-story, 452,000-square-foot office building at the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. corporate headquarters campus in downtown Milwaukee.

Rogers, Minn.-based specialty contracting and waste management firm Veit is the project manager for the deconstruction of the building, which was built in 1978. The multi-layered, floor-by-floor deconstruction project is expected to be complete in the fall. Then construction will begin for the new $450 million, 32-story, 1.1-million-square-foot Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons. The new building is expected to be complete in 2017.
