The Miami Heat may have thrown cold water on the Milwaukee Bucks' 2020 season, knocking the Bucks out of the playoffs last night, but development of the Deer District around Fiserv Forum remains hot.
Bucks officials this morning announced that they are working with Madison-based hotel developer North Central Group to build a 230-room boutique hotel in the Deer District, on a site just north of Fiserv Forum, at the corner of Juneau and Vel R. Phillips avenues.
The hotel will be part of Marriott International's Autograph Collection of independently owned upscale and luxury hotels. Groundbreaking is slated for fall 2021 with opening scheduled for early 2023. The project will create "several hundred" construction jobs and about 100 hotel jobs.
“This will be one of the premier hotels in Milwaukee with an ideal location and will further enhance Deer District as a year-round destination,” Milwaukee Bucks and Fiserv Forum president Peter Feigin said in a statement. “We’re grateful to work with NCG, a fantastic Wisconsin-based partner with a proven record in the hotel management industry, to bring a first-of-its-kind, preeminent boutique hotel to Deer District.”
The Bucks and NCG also revealed conceptual renderings of the hotel. The final design and a name for the hotel will be released later. It will, however, have public spaces featuring multiple food and beverage options that cater to both the guests and public, including an elevated restaurant and bar/lounge area, meeting spaces, an outdoor terrace and plaza. Its rooms will be tech-enabled, featuring things like mobile check-in and check-out, keyless entry and motion sensor lighting.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Milwaukee Bucks organization to bring an exciting new hotel experience to the fabric of Deer District,” Jeff Lenz, president and chief development officer for NCG, said in a statement. “The hotel will allow visitors and locals of Milwaukee to enjoy the best of what the area has to offer.”
