Medical College honors women in science
Two Medical College of Wisconsin female faculty researchers were recently honored at the Medical College’s annual Women in Science Awards Luncheon.
Dr. Mary Horowitz, Robert A. Uihlein, Jr. Professor of Hematologic Research and scientific director of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research at The Medical College of Wisconsin received a $10,000 award for her research. Alison Kriegel, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellow in physiology received the $1,000 Edward J. Lennon, M.D. award for outstanding woman postdoctoral researcher. Dr. Lennon was a former dean and president of the Medical College.
The Women in Science luncheon series offers the public an opportunity to meet and hear interesting research by outstanding female scientists and physicians and to raise awareness of outstanding local women researchers.

Jarecki joins The PrivateBank
PrivateBancorp Inc. recently announced that Jeff Jarecki has joined The PrivateBank as managing director of regional commercial banking in the Milwaukee office.
Jarecki joined The PrivateBank from BMO Harris Bank, where he was senior relationship manager in business banking and was responsible for developing new business and maintaining existing commercial relationships. Previously, he was executive vice president of operations and relationship manager at Lincoln State Bank.
"Jeff brings a strong banking background and over 11 years of experience to our group. We are excited to capitalize on his expertise building business relationships in Waukesha County and Lake Country," said Mark Lemke, president The PrivateBank’s Wisconsin region.
Jarecki holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Marquette University. He attended the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Goetz to oversee commercial banking at Bank Mutual
Milwaukee-based Bank Mutual Corp. announced the appointment of James Goetz to the newly created position of vice president of commercial banking.
Goetz is responsible for generating and managing mid-market commercial banking relationships and is based at Bank Mutual’s Commercial Banking Center, 2600 N. Mayfair Road, Milwaukee.
Goetz has 35 years of experience working with a broad spectrum of companies throughout Wisconsin to identify the products to accomplish their financial goals. He has business degrees from Marquette University and Keller Graduate School of Management.
“Bank Mutual is aggressively adding experienced talent in all areas of banking,” said Jack Steinbrecker, vice president of sales and marketing at Bank Mutual. “The addition of Mr. Goetz to our all-star Commercial Banking team continues this trend and we are pleased that he has joined us.”

Super Steel promotes Smith to president
Milwaukee-based Super Steel LLC recently announced that Dirk Smith has been appointed as president and chief operating officer.
Paul Luber will continue as chief executive officer and chairman of the board for the company.
Luber said, “We are extremely pleased with the addition of Dirk in this key leadership role. Over the past 20 years he has held various positions within the engineered metal manufacturing space and helped successfully grow and position several organizations.  Looking forward, I have tremendous confidence in Dirk’s ability to implement the Super Steel growth strategy and take full advantage of our 80-plus-year heritage.”
Smith also was appointed to the Super Steel board of directors.
Originally established in 1923, Super Steel is a leading contract manufacturer serving the agricultural, construction, industrial, transportation and defense markets.

Morgan is new president of WMC Foundation
The WMC Foundation, the educational arm of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, named James Morgan president to lead its education and awareness efforts.
Morgan has held various positions within WMC since 1987 and has been vice president since 1992. Morgan will maintain his vice president position within WMC and will add to it the title of president of the WMC Foundation.
This newly created position will focus the foundation’s efforts toward working with Wisconsin businesses to fill the workforce skills gap, and continue the Foundation’s promotion of business best practices.
“Every day, I am impressed with the business community’s commitment to jobs, community development, philanthropy, and the well-being of this state,” Morgan said. “These companies are led by dedicated people who are committed to the high quality of life in this state.”
For more than 30 years the WMC Foundation has been working on long-term solutions for Wisconsin in areas of workforce development, sharing business best practices, helping organizations elevate safety in the workplace, and educating Wisconsin’s future leaders on business literacy.
