  • Thursday, May 10 through May 25 The Blue, formerly the Reuss Federal Plaza, in downtown Milwaukee is adding a new garden market to its outdoor plaza at 310 W. Wisconsin Ave. Blooms @ The Blue will feature annual and perennial plants, hanging baskets, herbs and garden accessories from Tiger Lily Garden Market on Thursdays and Fridays, May 10 through May 25. Sales will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 5:30 p.m. Debit and credit cards will be accepted.
  • Tuesday, May 15 Joel Barker, a futurist and leader in Industry Week Magazine will be the keynote speaker for Innovation at the Verge as part of the Cardinal Stritch Leadership Center’s Helen Bader Leadership Series. Barker will discuss “Innovation at the Verge” – a new place for finding ideas for the 21st Century. He will also offer practical examples of “innovation tactics” that dramatically improve buy-in to new ideas. The event will be held at the University Club of Wisconsin, 924 E.   • Wednesday, May 16 The Independent Business Association of Wisconsin will host a networking breakfast with Governor Scott Walker at the Sheraton Brookfield Hotel, 375 S. Moreland Blvd from 7 to 9 a.m. Cost to attend is $30 for IBA members or $40 for non members. To register, click here.
  • Thursday, May 17 BizTimes Media will host its annual BizExpo at Potawatomi Bingo Casino Expo Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The BizExpo will highlight exhibit boots from hundreds of Milwaukee area companies, 20 strategy seminars that will offer business solutions and ideas to help you grow your company, and high profile speakers at two major events.   • Saturday, May 19 Milwaukee Writers Workshop will host the fourth annual Write Camp, a free conference for writers. The event will be held at Mercy Hill Church in The Hide House, 2625 S. Greeley St. in Bay View. Last year saw over 150 participants including local authors, hobby-writers, and media figures attended the event.
    Participants determine the workshop topics and content as the event evolves. The conference offers writers of any genre and ability the opportunity to network, hone their skills, and fuel their creativity.  Writers can suggest topics now at www.writecampmilwaukee.com, and will be able to initiate and suggest topics during the workshop in a setting created to foster collaboration and spontaneity. Past workshop topics have ranged from self-publishing, autobiographical writing, poetry, and editing, to technical, business, and resume writing. This year’s event will include a Critique Corner, where writers can receive feedback on their work, plus food and networking opportunities. A free pancake breakfast will begin at 9 a.m. Several local businesses, including The Milwaukee Writers Workshop, Reliable Water Services, Yelp Milwaukee, JB Dryden Company, Robinson Writers, Stonefly Brewing Company, Summerfest, Eco Runner, and Great Lakes Distillery will sponsor this free event.
