Bruce named chair of Greater Milwaukee Foundation board

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation has appointed Peter Bruce, of counsel at Davis & Kuelthau, to be the chairman of the foundation’s board of directors.

Bruce will take over for current board chair, John Daniels Jr, who has held the position for the past two years.
Bruce, a donor and member of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation board since 2006, currently heads the board’s Development Committee and also sits on the Community Investment and Administration and Audit committees.
He has been with Davis & Kuelthau since 2007 where he focuses on pro bono legal work. His previous experience includes 37 years at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. where he was an attorney in its legal department and then moved over to the business side of the company eventually becoming chief insurance officer. He also belonged to the company’s board and several of its subsidiaries.
Bruce has been active nonprofit boards including Alverno College, Curative Rehabilitation Foundation and Urban Day School. He is a board member of Badger Meter Foundation, Milwaukee Bar Association Foundation and the American Management Association and has volunteered his legal services with the Legal Aid Society.
“I just feel so fortunate, and I’m just so much a Milwaukee fan and loyalist that I just see the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and some of the other nonprofits I serve as an opportunity to give back to this great town that I truly love,” he said.
In addition to helping the foundation’s donors and supporting organizations achieve their philanthropic goals, Bruce said he is looking forward to continuing some of the foundation’s newer initiatives like Milwaukee Succeeds and Match Day.
Bruce earned his law degree at the University of Chicago Law School, completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and also completed the Harvard Advanced Management Program. He is a member of the American and Wisconsin bar associations and was awarded the Milwaukee Bar Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 for his efforts at Northwestern Mutual and in the community.
