Brightree operations in Kenosha County to remain open, despite layoffs

Lawrenceville, Ga.-based Brightree Services LLC will maintain its facility in Paddock Lake, despite an announcement last week that the company plans to lay off 50 employees there.

The company currently has 175 employees at its location in Paddock Lake, a village in western Kenosha County, said spokesman Judson Phillips.

Last week the company informed the state Department of Workforce Development that it is laying off 50 employees in Paddock Lake, which is a billing services operations facility for the company. The company also said that additional employees will be laid off “periodically until the end of June.”

The company is still evaluating its plans and may lay off a few additional employees after the planned 50 job cuts, Phillips said.

Brightree is a provider of cloud-based software for the post-acute care industry. The company says more than 3,000 care providers use its software.

“Health care market pressures beyond our control require us to make changes to our current Revenue Cycle Management (health care billing services) business at our Paddock Lake, Wisconsin office,” the company said in a statement. “Competitive bidding, a process mandated by Medicare, is just one of these pressures that by itself drove down total reimbursable amounts across our billing service customer base by 45 percent. While we have decided to eliminate some positions in our Paddock Lake office, we will continue to provide Revenue Cycle Management services from this location.”

In 2010, Brightree moved the offices of one of its medical billing operations from Antioch, Ill. 7.5 miles north to Paddock Lake. At the time the company had 80 employees, about half of whom lived in Kenosha County.

Brightree acquired the Antioch operation, then known as C&S Billing Center, in December of 2008.
