Bon-Ton opens new fulfillment center in Ohio

The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. today announced the grand opening of its 743,000-square-foot fulfillment center in West Jefferson, Ohio.

Bon-Ton has corporate headquarters in Milwaukee and York, Pa. and operates the Boston Store and Younkers stores.

The new facility in Ohio, which began transitioning fulfillment operations in June, supports the company’s e-commerce and omni-channel business. The facility is a major part of the brick and mortar retail store company’s strategy to improve its competitiveness with online retail.

The company says the facility is expected to improve efficiency and accelerate delivery time for customers.

“Our goal is to ensure extraordinary service to our customers,” said Kathryn Bufano, president and CEO of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. “The facility was designed to improve operational efficiency and enhance the overall customer experience from beginning to end.”

Bon-Ton consolidated five e-commerce distribution centers into the new highly automated fulfillment center. The company said the new facility offers a significant expansion to the company’s shipping capacity with an estimated 40,000 units per day and 350,000 units per day at its peak during the holiday season.

“This new state-of-the-art facility was critical to accommodate the rapid growth we are experiencing in our e-commerce business,” said Bufano.

The fulfillment center is currently staffed with 200 full-time associates and will increase to 400 during the peak holiday season.
