BloodCenter seeks 1,000 donors through donor campaign

BloodCenter seeks 1,000 donors through donor campaign
BloodCenter of Wisconsin is on a mission to gain 1,000 additional blood donors in southeastern Wisconsin by Sunday, Nov. 24, through a new campaign, “Community 1,000.”

According to the Milwaukee-based nonprofit organization, which earlier this week announced a new alliance with Michigan Blood, donations often decrease during the winter months and holiday season. The campaign aims to boost blood donation numbers for patients in need of treatment.

All of BloodCenter’s community blood drives along with its 12 donor sites are taking part in the “Community 1,000.” The organization is in particular need of O-negative blood, but all blood types are needed.

Donors can schedule an appointment by calling 1-877-BE-A-HERO (1-877-232-4376), by visiting www.bcw.edu, or by visiting m.bcw.edu on a mobile device. Appointments are preferred, but walk-in donors will also be accepted. All donors need to bring a photo ID displaying their birthdate. The donation process lasts about an hour.

Individuals age 16 or older who are in general good health and meet eligibility requirements can donate. Parental consent is required for 16-year-old donors.
