The CEO and president of BloodCenter of Wisconsin and Versiti will retire in 2017.
Jacquelyn Frederick has run BCW since 2001 and oversaw the creation of Versiti, a national nonprofit holding company that includes BWC and three other blood research and service center affiliates in Illinois, Michigan and Indiana.
“After 35 years of dedicated service to the transfusion medicine and transplantation industry, it is time for me to pass on the privilege of leadership,” Fredrick said in a statement. “I have been given the gift of serving communities across the country for the past 15 years as president and CEO of BloodCenter, and for four years as CEO of Versiti. It has been an honor and a privilege. Seeing the medical and scientific advancements made possible by the continued outstanding generosity from our donors, donor families and community partners has been a joy I will never forget.”
A committee will begin a national search for Fredrick’s replacement in June.
“Jackie will leave a legacy of a financially strong organization and a top-notch management team that she built at both BCW and Versiti,” said Peter Ziegler, search committee chairperson. “But, in my 15 years of serving with Jackie, what I have been most impressed with is the fact that she always put mission first; improving peoples’ lives and the important role scientific research, discovery and innovation play in achieving that mission.”
BCW specializes in blood services, organ, tissue and marrow donation, diagnostic testing, medical services and research. Through Versiti, the organization provides services for hospitals around the country.
In addition to her roles at BCW and Versiti, Frederick is a board member for multiple local and national organizations, including Washington D.C.-based America’s Blood Centers, Alverno College, the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, and three University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee foundation boards. She is also a member of the Greater Milwaukee Committee.
