BloodCenter in need of blood donations through holiday season

BloodCenter of Wisconsin, based in Milwaukee, continues to need blood donations through the holidays after severe winter weather earlier this month threatened a shortage in blood supply.

BloodCenter had to cancel blood drives and also experienced cancellations of donor appointments because of snow and rain conditions.

BloodCenter must receive 800 donations each day to accommodate the needs of the 56 hospitals it works with in 29 counties in the state.

The center has 12 donor sites throughout the state in Brown Deer, Milwaukee, Kenosha, Wauwatosa, Greenfield, La Crosse, Manitowoc, Marshfield, Racine, Sheboygan, Waukesha and West Bend.

To schedule a blood or platelet donation appointment and find more information about donor center locations, visit www.bcw.edu/snow or call 1-877-BE-A-HERO.
