What was the smartest thing your company did in the past year?

“We listened to our customers. We added services and solutions to align to their changing needs. Because the IT industry is a sector that has a significant talent shortage, we created a shared services model that allows our clients to use what they need when they need it. This includes IT staffing and our private cloud solutions.”

What’s new at your company?

“Because technology changes quickly, it’s critical that we understand the latest trends and how they can best help our clients. Over the past six months we have been working on two key areas, a program called Total-IT and a new business line we call Business Services. 
“With Total-IT, a small to mid-market client can get as-needed shared service solutions with a Virtual CIO, application/web development, report writing, onsite and project engineering as well as help desk and managed services. With our Business Services group, we help clients align and integrate existing business applications, reducing the duplication of data entry and providing multiple information access points.”

Do you plan to hire any additional staff or make any significant capital investments in your company in the next year?

“SSR is always looking for talented professionals to join our team. Currently we are recruiting for engineering, development, and sales roles. We have a unique approach to providing IT services, so we hire IT professionals who are a good fit with our vision. Our employees must have excellent communication skills, expertise and a passion for client success.”

What will be your company’s main challenges in the next year?

“Our biggest challenges revolve around talent acquisition as well as growth management. We’ve been strategic in facing these challenges, and they’ve afforded us several learning opportunities along the way.”

What’s the hottest trend in your industry?

“BYOD – Bring Your Own Device. Employees can use any type of device to securely access corporate data anytime/anywhere. This requires security and cloud technologies as well as integration, providing the user access to many systems on a common platform.”

Do you have a business mantra?

“Focus on your client’s needs as well as the success of your people at the same time and everything else aligns itself.”

From a business standpoint, who do you look up to?

“I have a number of mentors from my Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) round table, as well as many of my clients who have figured out how to live a balanced life with purpose and servant leadership.”

What was the best advice you ever received?

“Insist on client and service diversity, and never let one customer become more than 10 percent of your business. Never allow your business to become siloed since technology can become obsolete overnight.”

What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you in your career?

“My attorney started an oriental rug on fire (by mistake) at our holiday party. It just so happened that the establishment, a prominent city club in downtown, was also a client. This certainly made for an interesting evening and one we still talk about to this day.”

What do you like to do in your free time?
 
“My family and the organizations I support keep me very busy. I enjoy cycling, working out, wood working, reading, and travel.”
