American Red Cross

The American Red Cross in Southeastern Wisconsin announced the 2008 Brave Hearts Awards. The honorees will be recognized on Thursday, March 20, at 5:30 p.m. at Turner Hall, 1034 N. Fourth St., Milwaukee. The awards and their recipients include: Scott Olsen, Community Safety & Security Award; Michael Guch, Emergency Response Award; 2-1-1 @ Impact, Corporate Award; Megan Andronczyk, Youth Award; Potawatomi Bingo Casino & Forest County Potawatomi Community, Charitable Partner Award; Peter Brierton, Jon Holcomb, Jake Javens and Brian Sullivan all will receive the Health Care Award; and Nancy Remkus will receive the Hero of the Year Award. Medical Associates Health Center

Dr. Deirdre Duffy, an obstetrician and gynecologist, recently relocated her practice to Sussex and Menomonee Falls. She had worked in Medical Associate Health Centers’ Waukesha clinic for the past two years. Dr. Duffy’s clinical interests include infertility, menopause, postpartum depression and advanced maternal age.

Cardiologists Dr. Mahmood Al-Wathiqui, and Dr. Kiran Kashyap have been recognized by The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for providing excellent care for heart and stroke patients. Drs. Al-Wathiqui and Kashyap practice at Medical Associates Health Centers in Menomonee Falls and Waukesha. The NCQA’s Heart/Stroke Physician Recognition Program (HSRP) is a voluntary program developed by NCQA, the National Stroke Association and the National Heart Association and recognizes physicians who demonstrate high-quality care for patients living with cardiovascular diseases. The program recognizes physicians who use evidence-based measures and provide excellent care to people with cardiovascular disease (CVD) or who have had a stroke.

Two Medical Associates Health Centers’ physicians have also been recognized for their excellence in diabetes care by NCQA and the American Diabetes Association (ADA), Menomonee Falls Internist Dr. Malini Sims, and family practice physician Dr. Jennifer Weisgerber, Family Practice.

AT&T

AT&T recently contributed $73,000 to Discovery World to support Southern Passage of Wisconsin’s Flagship, S/V Denis Sullivan. The contribution will support education and scientific exploration for MPS students and adults during the ship’s 2008 southern passage to and from the Florida Keys and the Bahamas. Through the MPS Explorers Program, students are divided into “vessel” teams and “shore” teams, as they work with other schools and communicate their studies back and forth via e-mail and video-conferences. Vessel teams work aboard the Sullivan in the Keys and Bahamas developing Earth science, biology, math, technology, communications and leadership skills. Shore teams in Milwaukee attend Discovery World labs and learn to build Remote Operated Vehicles (ROVs). In addition to its student programming, the vessel is being used in 2008 as a platform for adult adventures, operating ROVs. 

Spectrum Digital Services LLC

Spectrum Digital Services, Hartland, recently received three Printing Industries of Wisconsin Awards, one Premier Print Award and a Print Excellence and Knowledge (PEAK) Award, recognizing their outstanding screen printing production in the printing industry. In the Printing Industries of Wisconsin Awards competition, Spectrum earned an Award of Excellence for outstanding screen printing on a Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat Expansion DVD; an Award of Excellence for outstanding screen printing on a Capel Original Product Gallery DVD; and a Certificate of Merit for noteworthy screen printing for a Vail Resorts DVD. Spectrum Digital Services also received a Premier Print Award Certificate of Merit for a Donald Driver CD they produced and an Award of Excellence in Screen Printing Category in the PEAK Awards competition for a screen printed CD they submitted. The Premier Print Awards is the graphic arts industry’s largest and most prestigious worldwide printing competition, drawing more than 5,000 entries each year. It is sponsored by the Printing Industries of America Inc./Graphic Arts Technical Foundation. The PEAK Awards is an annual competition sponsored by Print Solutions Magazine, published by the Document Management Industries Association (DMIA). It is the only competition to recognize companies that comprehensively meet customer needs for printed products. 

U.S. Marketing Corp.

Don Fortney, founder and president of U.S. Marketing Corp. in Milwaukee, was recently inducted into the Regis University Athletic Hall of Fame. Fortney played basketball at the school, located in Denver, from 1965-69. Fortney holds the school record for most points scored in a season (640) and points per game average (27.8), both set during the 1967-68 season.

Cleaver-Brooks Inc.

Cleaver-Brooks Inc., Milwaukee, donated two Clearfire Series boilers to Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Center for Energy Conservation & Advanced Manufacturing (ECAM) at the Oak Creek campus. The boilers – estimated to be worth a combined $70,000 – will be used by those participating in ECAM’s power engineering and HVAC service programs, and the steam fitter and pipe fitter apprenticeship programs. ECAM was designed to serve as a model for energy efficiency and manufacturing resource technologies for students, workers and business. ECAM provides customer-driven services through strategic partnerships with business and education to enhance global competitiveness.

Acuity

Acuity, Sheboygan, recently added a second A+ credit and financial strength rating. After receiving affirmation of its A+ rating from A. M. Best, ACUITY earned an upgrade from Standard & Poor’s (S&P) to A+. “Having two A+ ratings is a powerful combination of independent sources which validates our financial strength and outlook for long-term stability,” said Wendy Schuler, Acuity vice president of finance. “When it comes to the insurance sector, A. M. Best is the gold standard. However, since S&P covers all industries, earning their rating of A+ means Acuity’s performance ranks high among all companies, including publicly-traded firms.”

Health Payment Systems Inc.

Officials of Milwaukee-based Health Payment Systems, (HPS), announced the signing of provider services contracts with Meriter Hospital, Inc. of Madison and University Health Care, Inc. HPS began operations in 2006.  In addition to discounted provider fees, HPS provides its members with a Super EOB (Explanation of Benefits). The Super EOB provides members with a single credit card like monthly statement that simplifies the understanding and management of health care claims. Due to the unique service provided by HPS, it currently has four patents pending for its business methods and technology.

Form & Fittness

Form & Fitness’ studio in Mequon recently relocated to Mequon Court II 1412 W. Mequon Road. It has operated in Mequon for almost 10 years. Form & Fitness will be joined at its new location by Body Renovation, Advanced Techniques in Physical Therapy. Rick Wagner, PT, CSCS is primary owner and specialist for Body Renovation. Form & Fitness’ new Mequon location is a 2,000-square-foot facility that will feature fresh design, locker and equipment upgrades.

Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin

United States Speed skating has named Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Medicine Center, Wawatosa, as its official health care provider. Dr. Carole Vetter will be the lead physician for the athletes training at the Pettit National Ice Center in West Allis. Vetter is an orthopedic surgeon practicing with Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Sports Medicine Center. U.S. Speedskating also named Kris Juergens lead athletic trainer for its speed skating athletes training at the Pettit. Juergens has been with Froedtert & the Medical College’s Sports Medicine Center since 2003.
