Johnsonville Sausage
Sheboygan Falls-based sausage manufacturer Johnsonville Sausage recently opened its first retail store, in Naples, Fla. Ralph and Shelly Stayer, the company’s owners, live in Naples during the winter. They opened the 1,544-square-foot store to cater to Midwestern transplants who couldn’t find their products in local stores, as well as lifelong residents of the area. The store, known as the Johnsonville Sausage Marketplace, includes more than 70 varieties of the company’s sausage products, mustard, branded apparel, cookbooks and grilling accessories. The store also sells Sartori Cheese, Gibbsville cheese curds, Sconnie Foods sauerkraut and Faris Gourmet Popcorn. The company’s only retail outlet is modeled off the original Johnsonville Sausage Market, with a silver-embossed tin ceiling, exposed antique wood beams, hitching posts, and milk glass pendant light fixtures. The store is decorated with historical Johnsonville and Strayer family photos.
Concordia University Wisconsin
Concordia University Wisconsin’s School of Pharmacy building was honored with the Architectural Portfolio Award for outstanding design in the post-secondary category by American School & University. The Mequon university’s building was recognized in the magazine’s November issue. The $10 million building, designed by Mequon-based Mayer Helminiak Architects, opened in fall 2011. The building includes state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories for student lessons and research, as well as a museum depicting the history of pharmacy practice and research.
National Multiple Sclerosis Society
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Volunteer Hall of Fame recently welcomed two Milwaukee-area professionals in salute of their efforts on behalf of those living with MS. Alexander Ng, Ph.D., was inducted in the scientific research category. Ng is an associate professor at Marquette University and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is also a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. Kelly Malucha was inducted for her dedication to programs and services. Malucha is an MS-certified nurse at the Center for Neurological Disorders at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare. Both inductees were honored during the society’s annual Leadership Conference in November in Fort Worth, Texas.
Aurora Cancer Care
Foley & Lardner LLP has recognized Aurora Cancer Care, of Milwaukee, as the winner of its annual Cancer Center Innovator Award. The award, established in 2007, highlights “cancer treatment modernization,” according to Foley & Lardner. The award recipient was selected from a pool of submissions focused on case studies that offered solutions to industry challenges. A panel of industry experts selected the recipient. In honoring Aurora Cancer Care, Foley & Lardner called out its quality care practices in offering chairside medication dispensing, efficient pharmacy services with the help of technology, and a cross-functional approach to financial aid. ACC director of medical oncology Dr. Jacob Frick accepted the award during the Cancer Center Business Summit, held in November in Chicago. Aurora Cancer Care has claimed the award twice in four years.
