This is the first time ASQ has achieved the excellence level, which is awarded to industry leaders and role models, according to WFA. The designation recognizes ASQ’s Milwaukee headquarters as well as its operations across the globe. ASQ received the mark of excellence after an extensive review process that included organizational reviews, examiner interviews, a site visit and evaluations by a panel of judges. In honor of the designation, ASQ will accept the Governor’s Award at a ceremony in December. The nonprofit provides resources to reinforce quality in workplaces and communities worldwide.

Neu-Life Community Development

The Zilber Family Foundation recently gave a $100,000 grant to Neu-Life Community Development to aid the nonprofit in remodeling its program facilities and structuring a safe, accessible environment for its youth and family programming. The grant is supporting the organization’s first capital campaign to renovate its facilities at 2014 W. North Ave., Milwaukee, where it has operated for 14 years. Updates that will be funded by the $600,000 campaign include construction of an Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible entrance and elevator as well as remodeled bathrooms and upgrades to HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems. The campaign will also enable the nonprofit to develop new space for a computer and homework lab, a creative arts room with a music studio and dance rehearsal area, and a test kitchen, among other program spaces. Neu-Life works to inspire youth to make better life choices and equips them with skills and strategies to do so. The organization offers after school, weekend and summer programs and serves approximately 200 youth per day at three locations. Many youth benefitting from programming belong to Milwaukee’s Lindsay Heights neighborhood. Neu-Life was among 11 nonprofits that the Zilber Family Foundation’s board awarded with more than $2.2 million in grants at its spring meeting. The grants are part of a broader effort under the Zilber Neighborhood Initiative to enhance neighborhood conditions throughout the city.
