Bertha honored by Big Brothers Big Sisters

William Bertha, president of U.S. Bank in Milwaukee, has received the 2014 Martin F. Stein Champion for Children Award from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee.

Stein was a prominent philanthropist and children’s advocate who served as a board member and Big Brother, influencing the lives of Milwaukee area youth. He died in 2006. Those honored with the award have demonstrated the same commitment to the community and its children that Stein modeled.

“Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee is pleased to present The Martin F. Stein Champion for Children Award to Bill Bertha,” said Amy Chionchio, president and chief executive officer of BBBS of Metro Milwaukee. “This award recognizes ongoing dedication and notable leadership in improving the lives of children in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. Bill has been an outstanding supporter of our agency and the children we serve. His commitment and community engagement is greatly appreciated.”

“It’s a great honor to be named an honoree of the Martin F. Stein Award,” Bertha said. “Marty was a great guy, a man who deeply cared about the children in our community. Marty wanted all children to succeed in life, so he did what he could to help make that happen. Our community is better off because of Marty and all that he did to help make Milwaukee a better place for children to grow up and be successful. Thank you to Big Brothers Big Sisters – this recognition means a lot to me, and so does the work that you do for the children of Milwaukee.”

U.S. Bank has 49 branches and more than 3,500 employees in the Milwaukee market.
