The 84South mixed-use development in Greenfield is getting an outdoor beer garden.

Milwaukee-based Cobalt Partners, the developer of the nearly 50-acre project along I-894, announced it has selected Greenfield’s Brass Tap to operate the outdoor beer garden at the corner of 84th Street and Layton Avenue. The beer garden will run through Nov. 1, according to a news release.

Called The Lokal Beer Garden, it will consist of a 10,000-square-foot tent, an 8,000-square-foot lawn area and a food truck park. Three or four refrigerated beer caddies will offer 40 different craft beers. There will be entertainment, such as live music, trivia and karaoke, weekly from Thursday through Sunday.

The city of Greenfield approved a beer and entertainment license for the beer garden on Tuesday.

“Given the constraints associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have worked with the local community to provide an innovative way to support the 84South development, the greater Greenfield community, and local merchants,” Scott Yauck, president and chief executive of Cobalt Partners, said in a news release. “We have designed the temporary facility in a way that is very conducive to social distancing while providing a festive, beer garden feel that offers the community a place to gather responsibly. We are grateful to the City of Greenfield for is support of this effort.”

84South is located along I-894 between Layton Avenue, South 84th and South 92nd streets. It includes retail buildings, an Aurora Health Care outpatient surgery center, the 268-unit Forte at 84South apartment complex, which was developed by Fiduciary Real Estate Development, and a planned food and beverage component called The Lokal.

Cobalt sold 84South’s larger-format retail buildings for $34.5 million in November. The buildings’ tenants are Kohl’s, Total Wine & More, Five Below, Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, Marshall’s, Ross Dress for Less and ULTA Beauty.
