The Milwaukee Brewers and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education are teaming up to provide "Brewers Baseball Basics for Women," a one-of-a-kind baseball instructional program designed to offer a unique introduction and insight to professional baseball and the Milwaukee Brewers. The two day program will combine classroom sessions with a behind-the-scenes exploration of Miller Park.

The first class will be held Thursday, Aug. 27, at the downtown UWM School of Continuing Education at 6:30 p.m. Here, instructor Mariann Maris will introduce the Basics of Baseball.

Special guests for the introductory session will include Brewers vice president and assistant general manager Gord Ash, Brewers vice president -general counsel Marti Wronski, Brewers senior director of broadcasting andentertainment Aleta Mercer, and WISN-TV sports reporter Stephanie Sutton. They will each share their experiences and expertise on Major League Baseball.

At the end of the evening, one lucky participant will be chosen to throw out the first pitch on Saturday, August 29 when the Brewers play host to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The program continues at Miller Park on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature a stadium tour of Miller Park that includes an inside access to the Brewers clubhouse, a visit to the broadcast booth and a trip to the bullpen. Tour members will also get to experience the role of a Brewers relief pitcher with the opportunity to pitch from the bullpen mound during the tour.

Following the tour, members of the Brewers grounds crew will lead participants through an on-field experience and a close up look at the equipment used by Major League players.  Participants will also have the opportunity to try on one of the World Famous Klement’s Racing Sausage costumes and race around the Miller Park warning track.

To cap off the session, Brewers television announcer Bill Schroeder, a Brewers coach and a Brewers player with his wife will join the participants for lunch. Afterward, there will be an opportunity for a question and answer session. All participants will receive a Team Store by Majestic gift certificate, lunch and two game tickets to that evening’s Brewers against Pirates game.

The program has quickly sold out in each of the past two years.

Women interested in participating in the program should contact the UWM School of Continuing Education at (414) 227-3200 or visit online at www.sce/registration.uwm.edu. The registration fee is priced at $140. Registration will be limited to the first 80 entrants. All net proceeds will benefit Brewers Charities and the UWM College for Kids SMILE (Scholarship Money Investing in Lifelong Education) fund which provides opportunities for children from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to participate in College for Kids programs.
