Tom Barrett has released his second television of the campaign, this time promising to put Madison and state government on a “diet” if elected governor.
Barrett debuted the spot the day after he unveiled proposed cuts and savings of more than $1 billion for the next budget. In addition to proposing things like eliminating the secretary of state and treasurers offices, Barrett proposed combining state and local government employees’ purchasing power statewide, particularly for health care. He projects it would save $339 million.
The TV spot follows up on that theme. Barrett says in the ad that the state has "boards and commissions we don’t even need" and "we pay for Cadillac health care for convicted felons."
He says it’s "all got to stop" as he directs viewers to go to his Web site to see his plans for cutting the size of state government.
