Oak-Creek-based Astronautics Corporation of America has sold its legacy electromechanical product line to Melbourne, Florida-based Extant Aerospace in a $27 million cash deal. Astronautics Corp. is a manufacturer of avionics equipment and systems for the commercial and military aerospace industry. The company moved to Oak Creek in 2019 following an announcement that it would be consolidating its operations into the former Master Lock headquarters at 135 W. Forest Hill Ave. The deal with Extant Aerospace includes production, repairs, and spares activities associated with the company’s electromechanical horizontal situation indicator (HSI), attitude director indicator (ADI), and bearing distance heading indicator (BDHI) products. These indicators are mainly used in airborne defense platforms supporting the U.S. Military and its partners. The sale is effective immediately and ongoing transfer activities that will transition the product line from Astronautics to Extant will continue throughout this summer. “Customers are always at the forefront of Astronautics’ decision making. The decision to sell this product line, which created numerous long-standing customer relationships and was foundational to Astronautics’ early success, was carefully considered,” said Ronald Zelazo, CEO of Astronautics. “We firmly believe that Extant, with its advanced technical, material, and customer service resources, will support our customers with high-quality, aftermarket avionics solutions that will keep their aircraft maintained and operational.” Extant Aerospace leadership said in a statement Astronautics’ electromechanical product line aligns with Extant’s core business focus and infrastructure for the sustainment of complex electronic systems. “We will continue to produce and maintain the Electromechanical Indicator products with a high level of service and reliability for many years to come,” said Jim Gerwien-Moreta, executive director of Extant Aerospace.
