Associated Bank branch will include park along Park East corridor

The 3,000-square-foot branch that Green Bay-based Associated Bank plans to build at 1301 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in downtown Milwaukee will include a public park at the northwest corner of King Drive and McKinley Avenue, south of the bank.

The bank has “teamed up” with the city of Milwaukee and NEWaukee to create the park, according to a news release. The park will be owned by the City of Milwaukee, but paid for and maintained by Associated Bank. NEWaukee plans to use the park for seasonal events. The park will be called Haymarket Square Park, named after the neighborhood that once had a haymarket at Sixth Street and McKinley Avenue.

The site for the bank and park are currently vacant.

“NEWaukee is both proud and honored to work closely with Associated (Bank) in transforming the physical landscape of the city through the Haymarket Square for all to enjoy,” said Jeremy Fojut of NEWaukee. “It is great to see the important emphasis on public space as the new anchor tenant for communities.”

Construction of the bank began recently. It is expected to open in late summer.
Rinka Chung Architecture Inc. is the designer for the project.

“We’re honored to be part of the rich history of Milwaukee and the bring future of Haymarket Square and the Park East corridor,” said David Stein, executive vice president and head of retail banking for Associated Bank.
