Assisted living facility planned in Franklin

Residential facility will specialize in memory care

A 54-bed memory care residential facility is planned for seven acres of vacant land on the south side of Drexel Avenue, just west of Loomis Road in Franklin.

The Irving, Texas-based LaSalle Group, a family-owned company that develops and manages more than 40 Autumn Leaves memory care assisted living communities in seven states, is planning to begin construction on its first Wisconsin facility in spring.

According to plans submitted to the city of Franklin, the 37,835-square-foot facility will have 46 units and focus on people with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Kay Adkins, director of development at Autumn Leaves, said the company chose Franklin as its first community in Wisconsin because it identified a need for specialized memory care for area residents living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

“Autumn Leaves communities stand out because they are specifically designed to deliver the highest quality of care giving and the ultimate in compassionate dementia care,” Adkins said.

The LaSalle Group is planning to purchase the land at 9201 W. Drexel Ave. from Milwaukee developer PJ Burbach for an unspecified amount, said Joel Dietl, planning manager for the city of Franklin.

Burbach, who owns Franklin Ventures LLC, and has developed Monticello Gardens & Villas at Monticello on Forest Home,  and the Shadwell Subdivision on the west side of Franklin. Burbach considered building apartments on Drexel more than 10 years ago, but the land has always remained vacant, Dietl said.

Burbach could not immediately be reached for comment.
