The health system announced Monday it is planning a $7.8 million renovation of the former grocery store at 4027 N. Oakland Ave. to convert it into a clinic that will offer primary care and women’s health services.

The four primary care providers at the existing Shorewood Family Physicians clinic, 1901 E. Capitol Drive, will relocate to the new clinic once construction is completed.

“Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Milwaukee has provided care to families in Shorewood for more than 30 years and we recognize the importance of growing to meet the needs of the communities we are privileged to serve,” said Kim Merriman, a family medicine physician with Ascension Medical Group. “This new clinical space will expand access to primary care services and bring women’s health services closer to home.”

Construction is expected to begin by the end of the year, with completion anticipated in summer 2019.

The health system said the design of the new clinic was led by its physicians to incorporate clinical best practices and was informed by patient focus groups.

“This new, state-of-the-art clinic will provide more expansive services to the community, including the addition of women’s health services, the latest imaging technology and design elements that will enhance patient and family experience,” said Bernie Sherry, ministry market executive for Ascension Wisconsin.
