Area home prices drop

The prices of homes sold in the Milwaukee area decreased during the first quarter of the year.

The nation’s contracting housing market is affecting southeastern Wisconsin as prices of homes sold in the Milwaukee area decreased during the first quarter of the year, compared to the first quarter of 2008, according to the latest housing statistics released this week by Metro MLS Inc.
In Milwaukee County the average sale price decreased from $169,582 in the first quarter of 2008 to $116,928 in the first quarter of 2009, a 31 percent drop. A large part of the decrease was felt in the city of Milwaukee, where the average sale price decreased from $136,757 in the first quarter of 2008 to $84,423 in the first quarter of 2009.

  • In Waukesha County the average sale price decreased from $290,056 in the first quarter of 2008 to $279,548 in the first quarter of 2009, a 6.9 percent drop..
  • In Ozaukee County the average sale price decreased from $299,987 in the first quarter of 2008 to $298,991 in the first quarter of 2009, a 0.3 percent dip.
  • In Washington County the average sale price decreased from $211,056 in the first quarter of 2008 to $204,965 in the first quarter of 2009, a decline of 2.9 percent.
  • In Racine County, the average sale price decreased from $170,713 in the first quarter of 2008 to $150,128 in the first quarter of 2009, a 12.1 percent decline.
  • In Kenosha County, the average sale price decreased from $184, 809 in the first quarter of 2008 to $162,135 in the first quarter of 2009, a 12.3 percent decline.
  • In Walworth County, the average sale price decreased from $261,725 in the first quarter of 2008 to $211,710 in the first quarter of 2009, a decline of 19.1 percent.
