Angelic Bakehouse expands into Costco

Angelic Bakehouse has expanded distribution to Costo, including nine Wisconsin locations.

Cudahy-based Angelic Bakehouse announced it has expanded product distribution to Costco. Its Sprouted Seven-Grain bread is now available at 13 Costco locations in Wisconsin, Illinois and Pennsylvania, with additional locations to be added in the coming months.

The southeastern Wisconsin locations are in Grafton, Menomonee Falls, Pewaukee, New Berlin and Pleasant Prairie. Other Wisconsin locations are in Sun Prairie, Middleton, Bellevue and Grand Chute.

“We’re beyond excited about this opportunity,” said Jenny Marino, chief executive officer and president of Angelic Bakehouse. “Our placement in Costco is further evidence that today’s consumers are turning the food industry on its head. They demand better ingredients, less processing, and great nutritionals without sacrificing taste and texture.”

The Sprouted Seven-Grain bread is sold at Costco in a three-loaf bulk package for a retail price under $7, equating to under $2.33 per loaf.

In other news, Angelic Bakehouse has received Non-GMO Project Verified status for the Sprouted Seven-Grain bread. The Non-GMO Project is North America’s only third-party source for verification and labeling of non-GMO food and products.

The company expects the remainder of its product line, including wraps, flatbreads and buns, to be Non-GMO Project Verified by the end of 2015. The bread’s “Smart & Good Looking” packaging began carrying the Non-GMO Project Verified seal in Costco stores in October, and Angelic Bakehouse is in the process of updating its packaging in other stores.

“Angelic Bakehouse is all about creating pure bread perfection—using the purest non-GMO ingredients and crafting them into something better through our unique sprouted grain mash process,” Marino said. “We’ve always insisted on using non-GMO ingredients, but the verification process is another way for us to be transparent.”
