Passenger traffic has increased 2.8 percent year-to-date, which county officials have attributed to new routes being added by Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines.

The airport last week released its numbers for June, when 611,001 passengers traveled through, up 3.4 percent from the same month last year.

General Mitchell is served by Air Canada, Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, OneJet, Southwest and United airlines, which offer nonstop flights to 37 cities across the country. The airport currently is planning a new international terminal.

“July is one of the busiest travel months of the year, and I’m pleased we continue to add passengers at our hometown airport of MKE,” said Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele. “We have a great airport, and even more travelers are discovering that choosing MKE is quick and convenient – and that flying from here helps support more flights to and from our community.”
