AFP to author monthly column on philanthropy

BizTimes Media is building on its partnership with the Association of Fundraising Professionals Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter through a new column that will explore the ties between the region’s for-profit and nonprofit communities.

The monthly column, titled “Philanthropic Impact & Insight,” will appear every third Friday of the month in BizTimes’ Nonprofit Weekly with contributed pieces from AFP Southeastern Wisconsin’s members, volunteers and other key stakeholders.

AFP Southeastern Wisconsin is a membership organization that offers a pool of resources for fundraisers in the region – from mentoring to networking and discussion groups to leadership development opportunities.

On a broader level, AFP Southeastern Wisconsin, which exists as one of 230 chapters worldwide, promotes the importance of philanthropy in area communities as well as reinforces ethics in fundraising initiatives.

Through the “Philanthropic Impact & Insight” column, voices from the organization will delve into topics such as the global impact of philanthropy, technology’s impact on philanthropy, the ethics of philanthropy, the need for strong partnerships between businesses and nonprofits, and the kinds of metrics nonprofits should use to gauge their effectiveness.

The column will make its debut on Friday, Oct. 17.

“AFP Southeastern Wisconsin appreciates the opportunity to join with BizTimes to explore the rich connection between the nonprofit and corporate community in southeastern Wisconsin,” said Amalia Schoone, president of the AFP Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter. “Philanthropic issues impact all of us. The AFP Southeastern Wisconsin connects 300 talented professional fundraisers through membership that represents a broad range of issues and organizations from the arts to social justice. By sharing our expertise, we underscore the partnership we all share in building a sustainable Milwaukee and the difference our contributions make for the greater good.”

BizTimes Media is also partnering with AFP Southeastern Wisconsin on its 2014 National Philanthropy Day Awards, to be presented during a Nov. 11 ceremony at the Pfister Hotel.
