The city of Milwaukee is considering selling two vacant buildings that it owns in the Clarke Square neighborhood on the south side for redevelopment into affordable housing for young people aging out of the foster care system.
West Allis-based Cardinal Capital Management Inc. is partnering with nonprofit Journey House on the project. They plan offer 40 affordable apartments split between two buildings at 2331 W. Vieau Place and 918 S. 24th St.
Representatives from Cardinal could not immediately be reached for comment.
Built in 1928, the 23,400-square-foot Vieau Place building is a former public school.
The eight-bedroom multi-family home on 24th Street has 5,662 square feet of living space.
The city’s Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee will consider the proposal next month.
