Affordable housing development planned for former Malcolm X School building

CommonBond Communities plans to redevelop the former Malcolm X School building at the corner of First Street and East Hadley into a 55-unit apartment complex for low to moderate income residents.

CommonBond is seeking tax credits from the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) to help finance the project.

There will be a limited number of market rate units in the building. The rest will be reserved for people with incomes between 30 to 60 percent of the county’s median income.
